Cosmeceutical

The term cosmeceuticals refers to a cosmetic product whose formulation is capable of providing a physiological effect comparable to that of an actual medication.

For this reason, the world of cosmeceuticals is positioned between cosmetics and pharmaceuticals. Its design requires a defined series of steps to ensure that the final product meets specific criteria. We will examine these steps together in the next paragraph.

1. Active Ingredients

Active ingredients need to be able to pass through the outer layer of skin and reach the deeper layers underneath, in high enough amounts to actually work and make a difference.

2. Mechanism of Action

They must have a specific mechanism of action on target cells, that is, the cells being targeted.

3. Effectiveness

Their effectiveness must already be known and demonstrated.

In the dermatological field, cosmeceuticals are essentially used for the treatment and prevention of skin issues such as:

  • discolorations
  • loss of elasticity
  • appearance and consolidation of tone and expression wrinkles
  • inflammatory acne
  • scars
  • couperose and rosacea.
